What's New for Fall

Dear Readers,

It's summer, both endless and too brief. What's new here?

Research Presentation. Three researchers will be presenting research papers this month at a symposium I organized on HSPs and their unique brains--I will be the discussant. This will be part of the American Psychological Association's convention, which is here in my own San Francisco. I will describe the papers and their reception in the next newsletter. It's a big deal.

Another Gathering. In Estes Park, Colorado, October 4 through 8. Go to "gatherings" on my website. Here is another chance for you to meet with others like yourself, this time in the Rockies, at the time of year when the golden leaves tumble down and the bull elk bugle across the mountainsides. I will speak (not bugle) on Sunday morning.

New CDs. Perhaps even before the next issue you will be able to purchase in the "store" two new CDs--"Thoughts on the Highly Sensitive Child" and a revised, all new "Appreciating the Trait of High Sensitivity." One is already recorded and the other I will record in September.

Be Present for the Recording. If you are in the Bay Area and would like to be present, there might be room (it will be a small audience). It will be 10 to noon Saturday September 8. Please email Paula Dinnell.

Other Speaking. I will be presenting as part of the Gifted Learning Conference for Educators and Parents of High-Ability Children held by Nueva School on Friday, October 26 in Hillsborough, California. For more information see www.nuevaschool.org

In 2008, I will teach the usual HSP course at Esalen in Big Sur, California, February 29 through March 2, and again at Kripalu in western Massachusetts April 4 through 7.

Personal Metaphoric Trivia. Otherwise, except for some vacationing this month, my nose is still to the keyboard, writing, writing, writing. My inner life simmers and warms me like an underground hot spring, and I soak there as often as I can. And my grandson keeps me happy as Beethoven with a hearing aid, allowing me to listen anew to the music of my own genes. Can I pack in any more metaphors?

I hope that today you, too, are able to do some of the things you love.

Remember the motto of the emailed Comfort Zone:

"Every error missed by one proofreading
is a blow against the tyranny of perfectionism."
